This video contains:
1) Neon Plasma Glass: these double walled glass mugs glow orange and blue from the excitation spectrum of neon gas at low pressure. The base contains a high frequency transformer (Tesla coil) that generates high voltage electric fields (but at very low current) from USB rechargeable batteries- which excites the neon to glow, and also serves as a coaster. The inner volume varies in thickness which leads to variations in heat and pressure which in turn produces different excitations (orange and blue) of the neon gas in patterns that dance and dazzle the eye.
2) Eclipse Diamagnetic Sculpture
3) Oscillating Cylinder Steam Engine: a functional “wobbler” type piston steam engine complete with boiler and flywheel. In this design the cylinder and piston both rock back and forth, acting as the valve mechanism to allow the hot steam to enter through a small hole, and then exit on the next stroke out through the tiny exhaust port in the top.
4) Caustic Curve Lamp
5) Magnetic Tractor
6) Chaotic Coupled Rotors
7) Popsicle Stick Bomb: a form of simple tensegrity, the elastic potential energy of the bent sticks is dramatically released under application of a slight concussive force such as an impact with a table top- shown in forward and backward slow motion. Featured here is one of the simplest constructions with 5 flat sticks woven into a spring-loaded configuration held in place by friction and tension induced by the bending of the wood. A nice demonstration of energy conversion- potential to kinetic.
8) Okkake Koma
9) Flywheel Fun: a precision machined kinetic desk toy (with helical motion illusion) that will spin for 30 minutes! A massive cylindrical ring of brass is mounted on quality bearings- the combination of the ring’s large moment of inertia with the low friction contacts allows for amazingly long spin times. The spiral design converts rotational motion to translational motion for a nice visual effect.
10) Thermomotor Carousel
11) Bismuth Maglev Rod: Small magnets are trapped, suspended and floating, within the notch of a rod cast from the diamagnetic metal bismuth. Diamagnetic substances only have magnetic fields of their own when placed in an external magnetic field from another source- here the small floating magnet supplies the external field.
12) Compliant Mechanical Elephant

Tungsten is heavy metal
The popsicle stick bomb I used to make those when I was a kid but we used to throw them and they went like a frisbee they fly like a Frisbee and then they explode when they hit the ground
I thought perpetual motion is impossible. Needs battery ,magnets etc . Still have to force once to activate

Tungsten(W) has a greater density than Magnesium(Mg), that is why they are the same weight but have different volume.
You got it right! 50/50 Cube: a handheld study in material density contrast. This precision machined block is comprised of equal 200g masses of the metals tungsten (W) and magnesium (Mg)- however the volume of magnesium is 11 times that of the very dense tungsten! One must hold and manipulate this simple sculpture for greatest impact. W: 19.25g/cm3 Mg: 1.74g/cm3
The tungsten is more denser

@@physicsfun could not agree more :)
The atomic mass of Tungsten is 7.5638757457 times higher than Magnesium in it's purest form. Tungsten - Atomic Mass [u] 183.84, Atomic number 74 Magnesium - Atomic Mass [u] 24.305, Atomic number 12 They made the Tungsten slightly smaller that 1/8 of the cube and the Magnesium slightly bigger than 7/8 to make up for the difference in density to volume ratio.

It seems like that tiny, candle driven steam engine would produce a much, much greater amount of electricity than a solar cell of that same volume,if you powered it with focused solar light ?
Under load, it probably wouldn't turn much at all. It's all speed and no torque
combine enough of them to build up torque
@@troywhite6039 if you were to use gears to create torque, but the time it has enough to turn the generator, it would be moving negligibly slow.

Very nice video. Music 5.

Challenge 1 answer - I think thats cause of its bigger size means its higher circumference, due to its higher circumference giraff travels more distance on that surface. Its angular velocity increases cause of increased circumference (i mentioned all the points that came in my mind) Challenge 2 answer - Although it seems weird/cool that small part of cube is equal to thhat big part thats happening because that small part is made up of tungsten metal and bigger one with magnesium and small part has equal mass in less volume as compared to that big part, this is because tungsten(small part) metal has very high density and its atom consists more number of protons and neutrons than that of magnesium(larger part), magnesium metal has very less density as compared to tungsten, so its all game of density and to the one who made a perfect size cube in such a ratio that both have equal masses but in different volume cause of density i am sorry i may have over ellaborated things, i will improve it Thank you :)

The most amazing things about these devices and videos is in the question: Why are these things not being explored on a large scale basis to make everything more efficient and possibly solve many issues in our world? I'd say I assume they are, but it sure doesn't seem to be spilling over from whimsy to practical applications very quickly. If at all.
They are often whimsical demonstrations of practical concepts
The military owns(seizes) all the good patents.

04:28 Challenge-1: why does the larger disk (giraff) move faster than the smaller (monkey)? 07:44 Challenge-2 I want you all to answer. Don't worry about getting it right or wrong. Just answer!
The disks spin at the same speed. The giraffe disc has a larger circumference, which is why it goes faster (more distance at each turn)
because the circumference is different
1 the greater circumference causes the disk to move more quickly 2 the magnesium is less dense than the tungsten
C1-A: It's not JUST that the larger disk has more surface area, ...that's definitely part of it, but the reason is HOW it uses that surface area - as more of it comes "in contact" with the top, transferring more kinetic energy due to 'friction & drag'. The smaller one does NOT have the contact needed to keep it's own spin up.
Challenger 2: The volume of each, per square cm/inch/etc, for example, differs in weight. So if you had the Magnesium as the same exact size as the smaller one, then it would be about one eighth the weight. ...I think... ...or I don't think... 'cause i'm dumb. *Challenger 3:* What does BYU CMR (6:30) mean? Tricky question.
Awesome physics toys
Thank you ❤️❤️ I love science because it is the only thing that makes sense of this world.

Have you tried to make one surface rougher than the other? No dark color, just coarse finish.
The wind-powered thing was bizarre. I really liked it somehow. That could be it's own art form aside from regular kinetic art
